Infrastructure Engineer II

Job Description

GitHub is hiring an Infrastructure Engineer II to join the Service Mesh team within our Developer Experience organisation. You will focus on the systems and tools that enable our engineers to operate and scale the world’s largest code hosting platform. You will deploy, maintain, and enhance our Istio based service mesh with a focus on making the Developer Experience the best it can be for our engineering and infrastructure teams.
The Developer Experience team is highly distributed and you will thrive in an environment of remote work and asynchronous communication. You’re expected to have strong written communication skills and be able to develop working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.

Responsibilities

Build and improve the frameworks and tools we use to test and configure our Istio based service mesh in our infrastructure.
Ensure a reliable service mesh platform across bare-metal, virtual machines, and cloud environments.
Develop and support our service mesh initiative across data center and cloud environments.
Work closely with other engineering and infrastructure teams to design solutions and support workloads.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years technical experience in infrastructure domains (e.g., container orchestration engineering, platform engineering, database engineering, software engineering, network engineering, systems administration, or related field)

OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, systems administration, or related field
OR equivalent experience


Minimum of 3 years experience operating Kubernetes in a high scale, production environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 years experience of  service mesh platforms, such as Istio or Linkerd
Minimum 1 years  experience in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, or a similar language).
Minimum of 1 years experience using general purpose programming languages (e.g., Go, Ruby, or a similar language).
Minimum of 2 years experience with cloud environments and/or Cloud Native Compute Foundation (CNCF) concepts.
